Strength:

The Interior is beautiful, THAT'S IT!

Weakness:

The Car has a lot of problems, the engine has a clicky noise, what is this? Anybody help me, I went to the dealership and they don't know what it is. I am very disatisfied, with the '99 LS400, Both of the Axle shafts had to be replaced at 30,000 miles what kind of quality is this? The car leans when you take a sharpe turns, and you slide around in your seat, The Air suspenion failed, the AC compressor went out on me on the highway, This cars shape is boring, and It's so quiet inside you could fall asleep.

$50,900- I wouldn't recommend this product to anybody.

Strength:

Unbelievably smooth ride, so quiet you're not sure if the engine is on, fantastic stereo with in-dash CD changer, spacious, perfectly designed dashboard, very confortable, and worth the money. You don't need to refer to the manual to figure out to use anything on this car. It's that easy.

Weakness:

Not fun to drive. I could fall asleep driving this car. It's not very stylish and you tend to slide in your seat during sharp turns.

This is the flat out best luxury car out there. I negotiated the price down to $52,000 and feel it was worth the high price. I even got the Nakamichi stereo and in-dash CD changer which is a must for any LS400 owner. This is smoother, quieter, more luxurious, and easier to drive than any other luxury car. About the only thing I can find wrong with this car is that it's too smooth and too quiet. This is definitely not meant for the driving enthusiast, but if you don't care about that and just want to get from place to place in a safe, luxurious, perfectly designed car, this is it.

Strength:

Perhaps the best car on the road right now. Better than anything is the fact that I feel like this car will not be giving me any problems. I have had it now for several months and still not a squeak or peep from the engine or the inside. I'm feeling pretty confident about this automobile

Weakness:

Nothing besides the fact that we spent $60,000 DOLLARS ON A CAR!!!!!! But still, compared to the cars in its class, this is the best deal out there.

The Lexus has always been a named that I put together with dependability. I feel privledged knowing that I'm driving perhaps the most reliable car on the road. The fact that it looks great and has nearly everything you could ever need in a car also helps. Test drive one. Believe me, that is all it will take.

Great Car, Wonderful stylin and design. And I gotta say about the review under mine (from John from Texas)....Is John CRAZY? He's comparing an Mercedes-Benz S430 to a Lexus LS430. Ok...where to begin...

(1) The S430's base price is $70k, the LS430's is $54k, with the Added luxo package the LS430 will be $68k, the MB S430 will be $86 k with an added luxo package. John says that Lexus is copying MB in all their features, well does he mean? Does he mean a Cd player, a car stereo and front seats? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH HIM???? EVERY CAR IN THE WORLD HAS SEATS AND STEREOS!!!! So what does he mean that " ...But as far as luxury goes mercedes takes the gold with all its unique and one of a kind gizmos and gadgets" , was john a crack baby? What "unique" gadgets and gizmos does the MB S430 have that the Lexus doesn't? It's the other way around, The LS430 has more unique gadgets and gizmos than the MB S430. Does the MB S430 have a rear center consol that lets you control the sound system, the HVAC and your rear seats? Does the MB S430 have a rear cooler that keeps your drinks cold while you drive? Does the MB have rear messaging seats? I DON"T THINK SO!!!!!

(2)John goes on to complain that the Lexus copies the MB all the time. But so what if it does, if it copies an MB product and improves on it then i say GO FOR IT. John keeps mentioning that what you pay is what you get. Well,well,well...the LS430 costs almost $20k less than the base MB (S430) but it beats it in every single way. And John says that there is now competition between teh MB and LS430, well, John ...add another $20k of options and equipment to the LS430 and the Lexus will prob be better than the S600 (probably already better except for the engine)

The LS430 is the BEST car that you can get in it's class. It beats out all of it's competition in every way. I would definitly recommend this car to anyone!!!!!

I'm am disappointed at previous reviews giving this LS 430 a low rating. Many repeatedly complain of the lack of excitment or emotion from the car. This is perfectly intentional on the part of Lexus. Their intention from the very begining was to create a car with elimination of "Noise Vibration and Harshness". I would submit that they have suceeded in this car. Those looking for excitment *should* wait for the 2003 7-series. However the Lexus was designed to be the sofa floating down the highway. It is not, nor was it designed to be a driver's car.

Strength:

very luxurious. We had the LS with the custom luxury package, which gives you everything the Ultra has except the airconditioned back seats and little cooler in the back.

Weakness:

when the windows and sunroof are open, the car creates an incredible wind tunnel for those riding in the back seat. The first time we cracked the windows and opened the sunroof, we literally thought the sunroof was going to fly off the car. After taking it to the dealer, we were informed that this is normal and in fact, the RX 300 and LX 470 are much worse! Great, what a relief, after spending $63,000 we can not open the windows. I guess those Lexus engineers are brillant as long as the cabin stays closed. The general manager of the dealership then had the nerve to tell us what "luxury car drivers do not drive with the windows down!" Give me a break. If that is the case, why have switches at all. Interestingly, our E320 Mercedes Wagon has not such problems.

We have also had numerous problems with the telescoping steering wheel which retracts each time the car is turn off. After one week, it began making a screeching noise so back to the dealership where they had to replace the entire thing. 3 weeks later the sound is back and we are told that Lexus knows there is a problem, so they are working on a replacement part. For a manufacturer that prides itself on quality, this car has been a constant disappointment. The happiest I have been is when the Mercedes dealer showed up to by the thing and take it off our hands!!

My husband and I went back and forth between the Mercedes S-Class and the LS 430. Ultimately, we thought given Lexus' record of quality and superior service and since it appeared to us we were getting everything the Mercedes had, sans the emblem, we would save ourselves $10-15 thousand. What a huge miscalculation on our part. In fact, we just got rid of this lemon and lost 10,000 bucks on the deal. We were extremely disappointed with the Lexus and will never by an imitation again.

Lexus will never compare to the Mercedes or BMW for handling or assuredness. Also, I am a firm believer now that if you are going to pay over $60,000 for a car, get one that is known and not an imitation.

Strength:

lexus ls430 has pretty much everything you have a refrigeated cooler in the rear councel you can controll the stereo from the rear it also has a responsive yet quiet and smooth v-8 that reaches 0-60 in 6.1 sec
it also has the quietest cabin in the market as low has .25 decibels thats going at 70 miles per hour, anyways the car all around is strong every thing on that vehicle is god quality.

Weakness:

needs a better style it looks to much like a cadillac, its like an old mans car unless you get it all black throw some ground effects and some 19 inch rims with a sports suspension pakage that will lower the car couple inches that car will pimp all kinds of ladies trust me i know! i did the same thing with my old 94 lexus ls 400 well its up to the buyer every car has a weekness mercedes has cheap plastic controll buttons that feel has if there gonna break if you barely touch them. any ways those are my two favorite cars so i shouldnt speak badly about the s class so i wont, from hear on out.

well for all the mercedes lovers out there, if it wasnt for lexus who buy the way paved the way for a more luxurious interior, mercedes wouldnt have a telescopic steering wheel or illuminisint lights in the dash. even back when the ls 400 came out in 1990 it was a far more better deal than the s 500 and by the way the interior of an s500 is disgusting the rear of an s 500 is so ugly i duuno. even now you get into a newer mercedes model and you will still find boring simple designs on the mercedes priced below 80,000 dollars, im sorry to say that but it is true, im not hating on mercedes i like the car, but all mercedes has is a reputation, a reputation that if you own a mercedes "your rich" thats all. what you rich yuppies out there need to do is open your eyes to the good qualitie things out there, dont open your wallets. everyone knows you have money. instead of buying one s600 buy to Lexus's hey they always said two is better than one, right? anyways thats all i have to say. didnt mean to offend anyone! if i did get some help.

Strength:

Comfortable interior, solid handling, quiet annd smooth ride, great value.

Weakness:

Doesn't have the "gizmos" that the GM cars had many years ago. Such as compass, auto headlights, MPG readouts, stearing wheel controlls, etc. However, the newer ones do have these. Also, the keyless entry system on the `91's is pretty weak if you ask me.

Also the LCD pannel for my Temperature/Radio has gone out, like several others reported in here. Does anyone know an easy and cheap (!!) way to replace this? Please email me at eharris@ericharris.com :)

Just got this car not more than two weeks ago. But so far this car is GREAT! There is no way you can tell this car is a 10 year old car. Got the Lexus from Lexus of Lansing with 80K miles on it. I highly recommend getting certified Lexus' from the dealership. They usually only keep the cars that have been serviced there regularly, so they know the cars they are selling are top notch. The car has a great ride and is very quit. I drive this over 150 miles each day, between Detroit and Lansing. I plan to get 3-4 years out of this car and upgrade to a newer (but used) LS400.

Super-quiet powerful engine, high quality leather and wood interior, exterior paint job. Excellent sound system. Also, the countless number of features.

Weakness:

Brakes, rotors, handling. Expensive to fix, but hey, these cars barely ever need to be fixed.

The engine is the smoothest I have ever experienced. I have driven a lot of cars due to the fact that my father owns a used-car dealership, and this car is the best overall value on the market. Handling could be improved and brakes are not up to the standards of such a reliable car company.(Toyota) However, if you want handling, get a bimmer or a sports car. Overall, great car. This car was bought the car was meant to be sold on the lot, but after driving it around for a week, I just couldn't let go of it. All I need is a few custom changes. Any ideas, please e-mail me with info regarding body kits, visual mods, etc.
