Strength:

great styling of the interior and exterior. The best CD player of any car(a $4000 Nakamichi option),real leather seats, real wood trims;all very nicely designed. For people who want a quite ride, perhaps a business man type of car. Also very sporty with fast acceleration and high horsepower. Huge trunk with a six cd tape deck built in. Best car ive seen around and the best car i am going to own. Very well made, I dont know how much more to praise this car but I would recommend this car to people who got the dough. Great air conditioner and cassette player.

Weakness:

None that I know of. Even if there are weaknesses they would be minor.
No question about that

Bought a 1990 one and paid $16,000 and I would certainly recommend it; any year is good.

Strength:

Smooth, quiet, fuel efficient and well appionted. Possibly the best car I will ever own (but I hope not!). I had the Japanese domestic version, a Toyota Celsior (but I had to change the badges...) ;)

Weakness:

Noisy aircon fan (possibly needs a check), slight leak from sunroof (only when washing the car), shudder in steering on uneven surfaces.

Highly rec this car. Excellent to drive. I had the air suspension option and it is well worth going for. I was really impressed with the gas mileage, used about the sane as my old VN commodore just cruising - but hey - who wants to just cruise with an eight like this! Awesome car. I paid NZ$26,000 for a 1992 model, good cond, with 53,000 km on the clock.

Strength:

Quiet, bulletproof reliability, easy to use features like the radio and A/C, finish is top quality

Weakness:

perhaps too isolated, too quiet

Definitely would recommend this one for anyone looking for a LUXURY car. Audio system has got to be the best OEM unit around and is better than many aftermarkets I've heard. This one is not a sport luxury like the 740i or maybe the A8. If you want a stiffer ride then get one of those. The LS 400 is more inline with the Jag XJs. Competent in everything it does without sacrificing on any one aspect. This car exudes quality in every respect. Weird though is that the service that everyone raves about has not been there. Must be that there is only one dealer in the whole area. Why try when you really don't have to.

Refinement. Quiet. Power. Quality. Speak softly, and carry a big stick.

Weakness:

The new LS430 will be even better.

Those who need a three-pointed star on the hood don't know what they're missing. Lexus can build a better car for $20,000 less; it's a wonder that Mercedes-Benz hasn't fallen yet. The most refined, quiet, comfortable cruising sedan in the industry lets you add music with the best music system available on any car. I'm not talking about the Nakamichi option; the standard stereo will show you how good a car can sound. I've owned an LS400 for eight years and it still drives as well as the first time. I don't want any other car. Look for the new LS430 in the fall to silence the auto critics gushing mindlessly about the 2000 Mercedes S-Class. And look how much Mercedes, in turn, borrowed from the Lexus to create that car. Imitation was necessary for survival.

Strength:

After owning three LS400s, I could not believe the car could be improved upon this much. The LS430 is fantastic.............. What can they possibly do to improve the car for 2004, maybe it could drive itself.......

Weakness:

Not a one... I do understand the need for the navigation announcement each time, but it can get annoying.

This is my fourth three year lease of an LS400 and now LS430. At the completion of each lease I make the rounds to all of the luxury car companies to review their products to make sure that I am driving the best car. BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar and Infinity all got my time this round and not one of them measured up to the quality, ride, sound system, and performance of this car. The mercedes S430 was interesting but for $15000.00 more, WHY...... The Mercedes S430 navigation system uses time consuming dials to put in an address and uses a CD drive for their mapping. The LS430 has a convenient touch screen and A DVD drive that covers the entire country. This type of quality feature's is what makes this car such a dream. I frankly felt alittle guilty driving the new LS430 knowing that for $60000.00 I was driving the best car on the planet. Not even a Rolls can compare and a Rolls sells for $300.000.00. IN twelve years I have not had A SINGLE problem that required service with any of my five 'My wife has the ES300" Lexus's. I to believe this car would have received an overall 5 rating on this site but for the guy who rated the car a 1 and could not have been rating the LS430 for other than malicious reasons. I hope I can help one person make the right decision.

Smooth, seamless power, great ergonomics, high quality construction, reliability

Weakness:

I'm thinking....

I own a '93 LS400 and I am amazed how SMOOTH this car drives. Seemless power delivery, virtually no noise inside the cabin. This is topped off by great ergonomics, the best in the industry in terms of ergonomics and dealer service. None the less, I've been attracted to a younger model, and am selling my baby. Everything! Quiet as a tomb. Very comfortable seating, great dash layout, super stereo, good gas mileage, easy to handle. Quality you just cannot find in other luxury cars. Superb fit and finish.

Weakness:

Needs a snooze button! It is so quite you can fall asleep.

The sercret to any vehicle is how the drivers seat fits the individual. Try one on, and then try the rest, you to will find the LS400 is the best fit! This is a true luxury car and not a pretend to be sport and luxury car like so many others.

Strength:

Very luxurious car, from the handling to the sound system. I have to say this car has great pickup without any Non-Factory Upgrades. With 3rd Party Upgrades including a sport suspension system and controlled intake and exhaust systems I have got from 0 to 100KMH in 6.8 seconds. This car causes a lot of attention (esp. with a 17 year old driver).

Weakness:

When the car comes out of the factory it is UGLY. However, if you lower the car, add skirts and new grills and head lights it looks like a decent car. As well, when making turns the driver tends to slip too much. THE CAR IS TOO QUITE..

This car is meant for executives who want to show that they have style, and unless you want to spend a lot of money on the exterior of the car, car enthusiasts should not buy this car. This car is worth way more than Lexus sells it for .

Hard to knock in any category. Not the sexiest car around, but looks good enough.

Weakness:

A sport suspension option would be nice

previous "ringer" comments aside, the LS 400 is known as about the most reliable, quiet, quality vehicle out there. Obviously someone who put over 30,000 miles on a '99 LS 400 hasn't owned a S class Mercedes over 6 months. And he almost certainly never even owned an LS.

Strength:

Quiet very smooth ride, excellent acceleration, luxurious interior, total reliability, no major problems. After occasionally briefly driving other cars and returning to Lexus, superior quality and quiet luxury are very apparent.

Weakness:

Liquid crystal display clock and AC temp displays became unreadable after about 8 years, replacement is $700. Plastic coated bumpers scratch easily and look cheap. Styling is sedate and conservative.

Outstanding car, probably the best for the money. Would definitely recommend the car to anyone willing to pay the price.
