Strength:

Styling, Paint (Pearl White), Handling (I have the sports package)

Weakness:

No lumbar support.

Since my August 2003 delivery, I have only put about 8000 miles on the CTS. However, every mile has been great fun and trouble-free. I bought the car for its styling, but got much more. Keep in mind, I am not a qualified auto evaluator, but I am impressed with the handling, acceleration (220 HP is plenty!) and interior. It's very unique both inside and out. I can't tell you how many people ask me about the "nice" car I am driving. After reading previous reviews, I can only wonder when my honeymoon will be over...hopefully not for years.

Strength:

Beautiful, quiet, nice ride.

Weakness:

Low quality. Last car was BMW with ZERO DEFECTS.

Beautiful car. Looked at buying another BMW, which I love, but couldn't resist the styling and futuristic look. Large number of problems, unfortunately. Car is technically a lemon under Iowa law. Fluid leak required over 2 weeks in the shop to fix. Bad radio. Keyless entry failure. Trunk opens randomly. Mysterious battery drain left car dead in my garage - tow truck had to winch it out of my garage and onto flatbed.

Great Looks, great handling.

Weakness:

Major engine issues and repair.

I have had the car over a year and it has been in the shop for 29 days due to engine problems. The first service discovered a head gasket leak. It took about 12 days to repair that. The car then went in and out for 8 days after that repair for oil leaks, engine light coming on, and finally it had to be flat bedded as it was burning oil through the exhaust, what a sight. Just had it in for my second service at a different dealer. I pointed out a loud tapping sound when the engine was cold. Now I find out, the timing belt plus other items are being replaced. If I get it back tomorrow all totaled it would have been in the shop for 29 days. You might want to wait for the V8 given my V6 problems. Have not started the buy back option yet, but I am thinking about it.

Strength:

I should have bought a Lexus

Weakness:

GM's arrogance and unsatisfactory customer service

What a piece of junk for the money. I have had the car back to service for a front enf oscillation four times. The service department sucks. They basically don't listen and then say they have had a lot of complaints about the steering. At 40 to 55 mph you can feel the steering wheel rapidly oscillate bck and forth. If you are on a new road you can let the wheel go and watch it rapidly oscillate back and forth. GM Cutomer Service is now in the loop. I love it when the service manager took a ride with me, saw the steering wheel oscillating and had the nerve to say well the CTS drives different then other Cadillacs. needless to say GM sure akes their supliers fix issues but when it comes to them having to satisfy the customer they get an "F".

Strength:

Great exterior look & it's great that it doesn't look like every other car out there.

Weakness:

Plagued with too many defects/malfunctions. Noisy engine. AC doesn't always work & smells bad. Water leaks. Wind noise when you reach 65mph+. Poor quality console & control panels, they peel.

I waited several months for this car to come out so I could buy one, I was in love with its exterior design before I even saw one in person. I rushed to buy the one I wanted as soon as it was available (automatic), since then it has been nothing but problems. Ranging from onstar not working, to steering column recall, water leak, driver seat rubbing against center console, airbag light going on/off, console & control panel is peeling, noisy/rattling engine especially when the ac is on (which the dealership said was normal) musty smell in ac, now my ac doesn't work at all, and the most anoying a wind noise that appeared after they fixed the water leak. The two Cadillac dealerships that have worked on it (numerous times) keep telling me they don't hear a noise, it's normal, are you sure you're not being too picky? The nerve, it's my car, I should know, and no I'm not being too picky, I'm paying for it not them! The dealerships aren't being very cooperative, one of them even damaged my car on the last service & now they refuse to fix it. I'm considering hiring an attorney & fighting Cadillac under the lemon law. Can anyone email me & tell me what if any success they have had in legal action against the auto maker, to pmyanez@hotmail.com

Strength:

Great styling. Roomy. Like the size of the car. Handles well. Wouldn't mind a little more power under the hood (always driven a V8).

Weakness:

Seats could be a little more comfortable. Trunk is a bit heavy to lift, especially when your hands are full. The unnecessary analog clock is 2 minutes behind digital clock.

Bought my CTS six months ago (Jan/03) and have put just over 3K miles on it. The purchase price above includes the rebate and a generous trade. During the tough winter we had, I found the car responded well to snow and ice conditions. I like the design and lines of the car. I have had only one problem with the car. After a 2 hour drive in a hard rain recently, I found a had a wet floor under and behind the driver's seat. The dealer found that water was entering through the firewall area "between the FT dash and front compartment outer side of rail". The dealer resealed and cleaned the interior. The dealer was great to work with and kept me informed each day they had the car (3 days). I find the car roomy for my 6'2" height. Weather stripping under the door windows were discolored by pollen and would not clean but has since cleared up. Great dealership to do business with. There is a Cadillac dealer closer to my home that could use some customer service training. I keep my cars 6-8 years and plan to keep this one for at least that amount of time.

Strength:

Love the Look of the CTS. Great support from dealer.

Weakness:

Fragile, numerous minor problems. Definately needs more power for a spots sedan. Am suprized at the poor gas mileage all things considered.

Purchased the car used - 9 months old with 11,000 odd miles on it. Loved the look of the vehicle, find the interior a little "tight" for me. Vehicle needs more performance and am looking around for a tuner to beef it up. Had a few problems - trunk / number plate light unit was filling with water.. replaced seal - now ok. Weirdest one though - driverside rear footwell filled with water on long run. Dried it out and found it continued to fill. Dealer stripped interior and traced leak to block air conditioning drain. Next trip.. same problem. Dealer again stripped interior and ran the airconditioning all one day - found leak on condenser housing which was allowing water to drain down between floor pan and emerge beneath drivers seat. Made fix and so far - 1 week later no further leaks noticed. However, whilst interior was stripped out, sombody placed item on rear seat squab - tore leather and badly indended cushion. Dealer has ordered replacement. At this same time I also complained about the noisy and sloppy drive train / axel ( car is manual with sports package).. Dealer checked and advises need to replace rear axel. On order.. another 3 weeks to go to delivery. My experience has been generally positive due to the way my local dealer has stood behind the factory warranty.. never complained or try to fob me off.. always reactive and willing to go the extra mile. Always offered a late model demo car if mine was in overnight or longer. Question - would I purchase another.. probably, if it was the new 8 cylinder version - definately. My car is an early version and would like to think that later models have these problems engineered out by now.

Strength:

Great exterior and interior. Lots of bells and whistles that loose their appeal, but are cool to someone who hasn't been in the car before.

Weakness:

Loud engine, possible flawed transmission, possible leaking, and problem with Onstar

I have had my 2003 CTS (Luxury Package, Automatic & Sunroof) for 17 days. It is presently in the shop for a replacement part on the Onstar System. This worries me, after reading so many other reviews. The car looks great, but I must say that it does have a noisy engine, especially when the air conditioner is on. I have begun to notice that the transmission clunks when you coast to a stop. It seems to also be sluggish when you take it out of reverse or park, and put it into drive. It all just seems less than smooth or not what you would expect from this level of car. As for leaking, I did notice one day some condensation on the plastic part by the seat adjuster. The carpet did look a bit discolored, but I was not sure if it was from water leaking in from a left down window. I am keeping my eye out for any water marks. All in all I love the car, but I do tend to have a cautious feeling with it and I am always on the look-out for any problems.

Disappointingly, water damage to the molding on the windows is something that is going to take a recall to have fixed. There has already been a safety recall on a bolt involving the steering, which could cause the car to lose control. Expections were higher! Sigh.
