Strength:
I love the power, handling and brakes.
Weakness:
None so far. No probs w/radiator, brake pads, dashboard dots, etc. That's why I paid $2000 for an extended wnty., even tho I only have 26,000k on my beamer. I bought this Beamer 'cause my son has a 540 and daughter a 530. I love it! I've had two 911's, 3 Corvettes, and a SVX. This BMW beats them all! Strength:
GREAT engine, amazing interior, car gets nods from anyone who knows even the slightest thing about cars. Even in the middle of nowhere NH / VT this car stands out in a reserved way. It grabs attention without being a Red Corvette. It's subtle and attractive with a distinctive presence. It looks great in virtually every color (i hate white cars). This car has the power to launch a space shuttle. It hustles down any road any way you point it, and you never have to wait to hit the engine's sweet spot. torque abounds, and there isnt another car on the planet short of a bentley that weighs over 2 tons that can corner like a 740i with a an M pack.
Weakness:
Nav system goes on blink once in a while, power seats are a bit difficult to learn (but wonderfull once u do). Gets homesick quite a bit. It just loves to go in for minor gremlins. Mind you, you'll never replace the engine or trans. etc. But you will pay 2k a year min to fix annoying things cause by TONS of computer controled units. Amazing car. It drives looks and feels like a BMW should. Nothing in the car feels or looks cheap, wood aboud, great leather and seats to die for. I drive 5k miles a month and I wanted a car to keep me happy on my 10hr jaunts to Maine. I love this car on the highway or on country roads. The steptronic tranny does exactly what I want almost every time, and for precise control there is always the manumatic mode. Similar Products Used: S5 and 600. SC400. BMW 745. Bentley Cont. T |

Although it may take a few days, you will grow to love the look of the car. The lines of the long wheel base are fantastic. Performance is what you would expect in a car of this caliber. The size is unlike any other luxury sedan (headroom in particular)and I looked at them all. The i-drive is much easier than I expected.
Weakness:
As of yet I have found none. Perhaps only the fact that the snow tires required only seem to exist from one source and they are quite expensive. You must get new rims and tires because snows do not exist for the 19" rims that were on the car when I got it. I guess if you can afford the car you can afford the $ 2600 for the snows. I was looking for a new luxury sedan that would perform well, look good, and most importantly fit my size. I am 6'6" and have a problem fitting comfortably into most cars, the 745iL is perfect. I have loads of head and leg room and can even fit in the back seat behind my preset drivers seat. Size aside, the car performs incredibly in every way. I am no techno-genius and was somewhat concerned I might have problems with the i-drive, it is a piece of cake to operate. The control knob sits perfectly where my hand sits and in a matter of days it is second nature. If you are concerned it may be complicated, dont be. Gas mileage is pretty good, about 29 MPG on the highway and 22 in town. I drive about 600 miles per week and have never been so comfortable, the fan cooled seats have been great during the summer. The car also looks great, I get looks from all over the place, people giving me the thumbs up as I drive by and when its parked there are often people walking around it. Similar Products Used: Mercedes S-500 was also a great car but no where near the headroom, at 6'6" my head was rubbing against the roof. Lexus LS 400 was also a great car and headroom was not too bad, however because it is |

Strength:
Timeless design. High performance in all aspects of vehicle dynamics. Very good return for the dollar.
Weakness:
Mankind has yet to produce a zero maintenance high performance vehicle. This vehicle is not as reliable as a refrigerator. Brake rotors and pads, radiator, water pump and t-stat replaced at 90k miles. These parts were very easy to install, though and were not expensive. Simply an amazing vehicle. Yes, it requires care and feeding, but somehow I don't mind, I somehow enjoy providing for it since it provides so much in return. You command, it responds. You want more, it gives more. Silent, powerful, responsive, communicative, fun. Similar Products Used: All similar vehicles available in the US. |

Great feeling when you drive it, sporty even though it's so big, great handling, exterior and interior is great as well, love the gadgets, and most of all, it's the most expensive bimmer out there
Weakness:
RELIABILITY!!! And I am not even talking about my 1990 750IL with 100K miles on it, I am talking about ANY BMW out there... Why is that? I don't get it! Same thing with the Benz! I remember my dad driving a 250D in europe for over 10 years... probably pur over half a million miles on it.. strong as a tank. Not in the USA though, here my friend just bought a brand new E320, and visits the service dept here every week... what a p.o.s! After awhile, even the greatest car becomes a pain if you tow it more than it tows you First of all, I just bought is as a toy, not as a transportation... :) Unblievable car!!! Or should I say unbelieavably expensive car to drive? Well, I was born in Europe, and grew up on BMW, VW, and Benz... People drive them for 20 years over there, just changing oil and filling up with gas... That's not the case in the USA though! Here, these must be the most unreliable cars I've ever seen! What happens while those vehicles cross the ocean is a mistery for me... Now about the cars itself, what can I say? The ultimate driving machine! (unless it's beeing towed) Great power, the V12 is super strong engine, never gives problems.. Pleasure to drive, passing cars is a joke, can I say power rear seats??? Impressive gadjets and all, great deal since it depreciates so damn fast.. :) The usual problems are electrical stuff, computer crapping out, transmission, I had my share with all of these, and couldn't wait to sell it, but I miss it so much, I am about to go buy a couple years old 740i now... Never mind the $$$ that it costs to maintain. The v12 has two air filters, the oil filter costs $30 alone in a discount auto parts store, basically very expensive car to own, but very rewarding. Oh, and reading this review forum makes me laugh so much... what is this? A bunch of old guys trying to race with their 2+ton cars? :) It seems like everyone is so concerned about how fast their car goes... heheh, buy a M3 or something, the 7s are not about racing mustangs... Oh, and by the way, if you want sports luxury, go try the Audi S8 and then talk about the sportiest luxury sedan, BMW doesn't even come close to the quattro s8, in power, in handling, or in anything else. And the quality issue is a big freak accident here in the USA, Audi's are just as reliable as BMW and Benz anywhere in Europe. Fit and finish is amazing as well, and the performance actually comes close to a sports car Similar Products Used: S and E class Benz, Acura 3.2TL, Audi A8 and S8, BMW 740i, Peugeot 605, Lexus LS 400 |

strength? yea right Just great 0-60 times, nice torque.
Weakness:
I CONTROLLER is such a hassle. Like all BMW's way overpriced, you get the same features in a Acura or Lexus for 10 grand less. Mine had electrical problems early SO DUMB, stupid looking back lights, annoying I CONtroll thing, have to push it so many times to do simple things, like changing a radio station. I prefer my Lexus LS430. Good pickup though Similar Products Used: LS430 (so awesome!) BMW 330i (mediocre) |

Awesome handling, wonderful power, considering a 2-ton vehicle. Seating couldn't be more comfortable.
Weakness:
Maintenance monster. In the 10 months I've owned it; Front rotors warped; front brake caliper seized; rear suspension replaced; front ball joints replaced; catalytic converters replaced; computer brain "gets jiggey" every so often and wipes out all settings. Bought this car to keep me happy on I-90 as I drive about 200 mi./day. Always wanted a Bimmer and thought I found the dream car. It's the greatest when it's running, but therein lies the rub. Ive had it for 10 months and it's been in the shop 4 times. I've been "lucky" in that each time it's been a "safety issue" so I've avoided the 4-6 week lead time the dealership quotes. It's amazing to me that BMW is able to keep it's loyal base. It's the "ultimate driving machine" but thank God for the 5 year/100K warrantee! I have about 10 months and or 30K miles to decide what to do. |

Folks if you have PERFORMANCE as deciding factor buy a 7 series. Commands respect.
Weakness:
To me it looks like a car matched up with a tank engine.Totally sucks. You dont feel like putting up with the dealerships after paying $67K.Utterly callous. First time ever repented my decision of owning this METALLIC CRAP. I was Fine with my 97Q45. Guys Q45 is an artifact on the road. Swear by all means I am goin back to my Q. Guys dont just be stereotyped like me .,BUY what is good for you not what looks good on you. Bimmer guys., please LEARN. First time ever voicing my opinion on this site. Can be a derivative of the word PERFORMANCE.Probably the Uncrowned Monarch of Luxury cars. Everything else sucks...pathetic sound system, cluttered interior,TOTALLY UNRELIABLE. I should ask the design team if they ever heard of word ''Ergonomics''., may be its not there in their dictionary. Similar Products Used: Infiniti Q45., Mazda 929 |
