Audi A4 (2010 and older) Luxury

Audi A4 (2010 and older) Luxury

DESCRIPTION

The Audi A4 has a planted, sportier stance and holds the road with a new sense of confidence and enthusiasm. Its new underpinnings are shared with the S5 and A5 coupes. Thanks to the liberal use of ultra-high-strength steel, the body weighs 10 percent less than last year's, yet is more rigid.

The 2.0 T is equipped with a new 2.0-liter, I4, 211-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 27-mpg on the highway for a combined fuel economy of 23-mpg. A 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard. The 3.2 quattro with Tiptronic is equipped with a new 3.2-liter, V6, 265-horsepower engine that achieves 17-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway for a combined fuel economy of 20-mpg. A 6-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

Model Reviewed: A4 1.8T Quattro

Strength:

* fit and finish
* styling
* quattro
* pleasure to drive
* nice turbo performance (can be further enhanced by an aftermarket chip)

Weakness:

* car is very slow below 2000 rpm (after that turbo kicks-in)
* heavy
* poor cupholder design

The fit and finish, the high quality feel of good craftsmanship is what makes this car a pleasure to own and drive. Handling and cornering is fantastic thanks to the sport suspension and wide tires (sports package). If you like/need the space of a 4-door sedan, but at the same time don't want to drive in the slow lane, A4 is for you. Less expensive and not as common as Bimmers and Mercedes. At the same time, the quattro option is a life-saver in inclement weather and improves handling year-round.

Styling is another reason why I bought this car. I love the current body style which appeared in 1995/96. That is why I rushed to buy the 2001 model when I saw what the 2002 redesigned body will look like. That's very personal though - some people like the 2002 A4 design.

Finally, the enthusiasm and help you get from sites like AudiWorld.com with thousands of Audi owners/fanatics is priceless. A great resource for modding information and all kinds of troubleshoots.

Strength:

I LOVE THE LOOKS OF THE CAR, IT IS VERY SHARP.THE INTERIOR IS NICE. IT SHOWS WHAT THE TEMPERATURE IS OUTSIDE, AND I LOVE THE CLIMATE CONTROL.POWER SEATS ARE VERY NICE(BUT THEY ARE ONLY ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE). LOVE THE POWER!!

Weakness:

CUP HOLDERS ARE A TOTAL WASTE OF SPACE, THEY !DO NOT WORK!. BOTH OF THE FRONT SEATS SHOULD BE POWER. MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE SEATS ARE WAY TO HARD, NOT COMFORTABLE TO TRAVEL IN AT ALL. HEAD LIGHTS ARE NOT VERY BRIGHT. THE GET UP AND GO IS NOT THAT GREAT.

I LOVE MY CAR, BUT IT SCARES ME, IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH IT, YOU USUALLY HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO HAVE IT FIXED AND IT IS A LITTLE PRICY. I LOVE THE SMOOTH RIDE THAT I GET FROM IT. THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST LOOKING CAR AROUND, I WOULD LOVE TO BUY A NEW ONE.

Model Reviewed: Audi A4 1.8T Quattro

Strength:

Overall value. Quattro!!

Weakness:

Back Seat. More HP.

I just totalled my 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro last week. When all 4 wheels loose grip, who cares how many wheels have drive. I went car shopping and found nothing better for the price. Mercedes Benz, too expensive for little value. BMW, great handling, better back seat, but not enough to warrant an extra $7k. The extra 20hp is nice and apparent. The 17" wheels, are real nice also. (Come with the Celebration package.)

Strength:

Deeply quiet. Smooth torque curve.
Brilliant suspension, steering and braking.
Up to 30.000 Km or 2 years service interval.

Weakness:

Enough but not great rear passenger's leg space.

Deeply quiet at highway speed. You can enjoy some classical music and talk relaxed, even to rear passengers.

Smooth stepless torque curve: 195 Nw/m at 3.300 rpm, more than 150 Nwm from 1.000 trough 6.000 rpm. High speed even climbing the steepest cliff.

Sporty engine performance from 3.500 through 5.500 rpm, with a thick gorgeous engine sound at high end.

Brilliant suspension, absorbs very well road imperfections (multilinked on both axes, and built with aluminium for reduced weight moving masses).

Perfect steering at high speed. XXI century electronic control for estability, traction and brake.

You are safe with 12 airbags and a service replacement of 14 years.

Great cockpit information, including graphics, sounds and text messages.

Great sound system, with 10 speakers and 150 Watt.

Model Reviewed: A4 1.8T Quattro Celebration

Strength:

Handling, ride, front seat are great, a nice entry level german sports car and a much better deal then the BMW or a Subaru

Weakness:

Road noise, rear seat (I new that when I bought the car and I never ride back there anyway)

Strong car, still looking into aftermarket chips to boost power (there are a bunch of options). I looked into the 2000 A4 and am very glad that I bought the 2001, more HP and standard features, plus with the celebration package Quattro and a power roof were less expansive. Great car over all, I just hope it holds up over time.

Model Reviewed: A4 2.8 Quattro

Strength:

- Great look
- Awesome interior
- Handling

Weakness:

- Poor gas mileage (16-18 MPG on average when driving from home to work)
- Stereo system lacks options, when playing a CD all you see is "Track #" it does not include play time, a splash screen, anything..
- Acceleration is weak
- Tiptronic isn't very useful

I was sold the minute I drove this car. The Quattro feature is a must-have and really adds to the experience of driving this car. The car has a defined look and with a good set of 17" tires and rims its hard to beat.

Strength:

Body style, interior, performance

Weakness:

5-speed manual transmission, rear leg room

The car looks very nice inside and out. The 170HP turbo engine provides plenty of torque with minimal turbo lag. I like the new side curtin airbags for front and rear passengers. I am not sure how reliable this car will be in the future, so I will have to wait and see.

Model Reviewed: Audi A4

Strength:

Beautiful inside and out. Mechanically-solid. Lots of features for the money.

Weakness:

Build qualities as the car aged.

I have owned my 1996 Audi A4 for three years now. Overall I think it is a great car for the money. I found the low-end torque to be a little disappointing but overall, the engine to be adequate (2.8 6cyl). The longer I owned the car, however, I started to experience "build" issues. The two front Axel boots had to be replaced, the climate control unit went on the blink and various interior materials began to fall apart. This led me to sell the car as the five year marks seemed to have a toll on the A4.
