Strength:

The high safety rating and reliabilty of the Honda Civic are the main reasons we bought the car - it has front and side air bags for both driver and passenger. That in addition to the environmental benefits of less emissions and less fuel consumption make this car well worth the price. Plus you get a tax credit for being so clean!

Weakness:

We've had the car just over a year and at 20K miles it has developed rattles in the interior roof supports - not bad but noticeable. It doesn't have a fold down rear seat due to the battery placement which reduces it's versatility but both the back seat and the trunk are roomy enough to suffice. The dash control button lighting is poorly lit and not easily seen in the daylight and there are no controls for locking the doors from the passenger side which is a safety concern.

We love our Honda Civic Hybrid! It rides smoothly,(thank you CVT) it has an ultra-low emissions rating (which is important to those of us who breathe) and it saves money and gas. We average around 600 miles to a tank of gas and about 45-47 miles to the gallon - it actually does better in town than on the highway. Using the A/C Heat does lessen the MPG -sometimes down to a paltry 43mpg - and there are some tricks that need to be learned in order to get that cool "silent stop" at a stop sign (try the ECON button on the A/C) but learning how to tweak the car to get the most out of it is just fun.

Strength:

style, fun to drive, Automatic climate control, auto idle stop feature.

Weakness:

Gas milege, small trunk, SULEV model has smaller gas tank, 11.9 US gal, ULEV model has 13.2 US gal, Dealer lack of knowledge of this car.

I just drove this car for less than 1000 miles. I only get 38 mile per gallon. and I'm driving it very easy, will it get better after time? During driving, the Honda hybrid gas engine is running 100% of the time, electric motor is assisting the gas engine when needed, compare to Toyota Hybrid, it alternate from gas and electric or both are running at the same time, it has better gas milege, averge 45 to 50, I'm a little disappointed with my Honda Hybrid gas milege, my friend has a Toyota corola, average gas milege is 38 miles per gallon and it is not hybrid, I found out all this information after I bought this car, if I know ahead of the time, I would buy something else, I don't mean by this is a bad car, it's fun to drive and good style, but it's just misadvertisement, 47/48 city/highway with continuously variable transmission,

EXCELLENT CAR. ITS MY FIRST HONDA. EXCELLENT FUEL MILEAGE. GREAT LOOKS.

Weakness:

POOR MILEAGE DURING WINTER FOR GOOD MILEAGE YOU HAVE TO MAINTAIN STEADY SPEEDS. AT SPEEDS OVER 70 MPH, FUEL CONSUMPTION IS LIKE NORMAL CARS. NOT ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY FAMILY OF 4.

BOUGHT IT ON JAN 2ND 2003. DURING THE WINTER THE MILEAGE WAS ONLY 30-35/MPG. NOW THAT THE WEATHER IS GETTING WARMER, I CAN GET UP TO 48 TO 50 MPG. FOR THE ENGINE TO TURN OFF AUTOMATICALLY I HAVE TO KEEP THE HEATER/AC OFF. EXCELLENT CAR THOUGH. DID NOT LIKE THE INTERIOR COLOUR. UNFORTUNATELY IT CAME ONLY IN ONE COLOUR. I BOUGHT THE CAR FOR CLOSE TO $20,000. HOWEVER I SEE OTHER PEOPLE WHO'VE PURCHASED THE CAR FOR MUCH LOWER. DON'T KNOW HOW THEY MANAGED TO GET IT SO CHEAP.

Strength:

Honda quality (This is our fifth Honda). Mileage, very good CD player and speakers, quiet, great mileage. One of the great bonusses is telling our super-environmentalist, Isuzu Trooper driving, ultraliberal friends to put their money where their mouths are.

Weakness:

Not as nearly as good of mileage as predicted in very cold weather.

My Mom-in-Law bought one of these out in California. Coincidentally, we were planning on a new car for my wife, and since she had driven Mom's and liked it, we got one here in Minne-so-cold. Before taking delivery, (it got held up in the dockworkers strike) I drove Mom's while visiting California. It was warm out and the car performed terrific. Exceedingly smooth and faster than it feels because the transmission never shifts - it's not unlike a golf cart in that respect because it just goes. It shuts off at stop signs and starts without a starter motor - wierd! It is small (it is a Civic, after all) but not too bad. The mileage in the warm weather was in the mid 40's to low 50's under all driving conditions and all speeds. Here in the cold, ours does not do as well. The mileage is just starting to approach 40 in town for the first time as the weather has been in the low 60's. Also, it never shuts off in the cold - perhaps to keep the engine warm and that's why the mileage is off. My sis-in-law just bought one last week and she got in the mid-40's on her first tank. So our mileage has been off what we expected. The CVT transmission is quirky - it apparently runs off friction. Well, there's less friction at -10F, so it doesn't engage for about 7-8 seconds the first time you put in gear in the winter here. Once it is in gear the first time in the morning, all is great the rest of the day. Otherwise, it performs fine and is a pleasure to drive. We are looking forward to the summer to watch the mileage go way up. I will repost then.

Strength:

MPG!,Silkey smooth CVT transmission, nice car to drive that doesn`t look like a spaceship, seating capacity and leg room, nice ride, really nice ride and quiet on the highway, options included, safety, engineering, comfort,Come on its a Honda.

Weakness:

Well I guess I`m a little leary on this new hybrid tech,3yr-36k warranty this is a biggie because of the newness of the powertrain at least the batteries are covered for 8yrs/100k miles.Needs more power!!!!but I said the same thing about my 200hp/200mph motorcycle! It has enough to get the job done though.107mph topspeed should be enough for most people.CVT transmission will roll back alittle when your on a hill and you remove your foot off the brake pedal but it takes about 10min to get over it.

Bought this car because of 2 reasons.1 MPG and 2 seating capacity of 5.We traded in our 99 Chevy Astro van which required some general maintainance and a trans rebuild(which we did)considering its 90,000 miles in 4 years I guess it was to be expected...from a Chevy anyway, lol.I will miss its high vantage point, its All wheel drive and its roomy 8 passenger seating. What I wont miss is its "9MPG" city driving.I have three young kids and for now the fit rather well in this Honda.Though no where near the room the Astro had. After my initial test drive I was impressed by the seamlessness of the engine/CVT trans combo. The highway ride was unbelievably quiet and smooth. The chassis is alittle on the stiff side on the bumpy stuff but its probably those funky tires.I feel as I have at least done my part to help the enviroment(We also recycle and use energy efficient home products, and use synthetic oils in our cars)and hopefully put a dent even if a very small one in our countrys dependancy on foriegn oil(and being a Desert Storm Vet that means something to me).

Strength:

The strength are most diffidently gas mileage, over 40 mpg. The car has Simple but effective lines. Honda are Cheep to run. And some of the coolest ideas like using the brake friction to charge the batteries. Fun car because it shuts down when you stopped (Honda really was resourceful when they built it.)

Weakness:

Performances are on the week side, tires, suspension, horse power, but you pay for what you get. Don’t lower the car, I did and there is no adjustments to put you alignment back to perfect. Car lugs if you have more then one person in it. Sometimes the car feels cheep, like it’s just a bunch of plastic thrown together. Batteries that run the electric engine are expensive to replace. Who really knows how long the car will last?

If you’re looking for a rice burner you can’t beat this car, and if you can't beat it, buy it. Overall I'm impressed with the car. It drives well, has simple but effective interior, very cheep to run and maintain, what more can you say about Honda’s. You have a great name on you car and hopefully that passes over to this car.
