Price Paid:  $52.00 from ubid

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2001 PPI Powerclass 12" 8 Ohm

Summary:
Nothing so special about it. I used to have a single 12" JL W4-D4 and the surrounding foam is starting to crack. JL hit way lower than PPI does. The PPI is producing tight bass, instead of boom but they don''t go low. I''m powering them with an old school RF punch 100ix DSM rated 200W RMS @12V. The PPI probably get about 150W RMS each. The subs are rated to take 300W RMS and 500W peak. The other thing about this subs is that they put out a lot of midbass. Maybe that''s why they don''t go low or it could be my amp is too weak, that''s why I''m getting new amp soon, a kicker ZR600 to power both PPI 12". Hope this helps. And I also have a crappy box that I "borrowed" from walmart, this could be another factor that the subs doesn''t sound that good. They bottoms out if you crank it up, probably not enough power. PPI used to make good subs, like the "Flat" cone subs. But this one is definetely not a good sub. It seems like nobody buy PPI sub. I''m selling my system. An Alpine MRV-T707, RF punch 100ix DSM, a Sony XEC-505 crossover, custom amp rack for 2 amps and extra space for distribution blocks and also a custom sub box single 12" for Sentra. If intersted email me at privacy_star@hotmail.com

Strengths:
Looks better than JL. Nice & strong gold terminal that take 12GA not like JL that breaks easily, use of rubber surround, very cheap @ $52 for both, excellent deal.

Weaknesses:
too much midbass, don''t go low, easily distort and bottoms out, not an SPL sub, SQ is questionable, XmaX is only 9.97mm less that my old 12W4.

JL 12W4-D4, RF punch 12" Old School
