Model Reviewed: 2003 Diamond Audio HEX 3-Way

Strength:

Outstanding clarity Excellent crossover network 3-year warranty

Weakness:

price might be high for somepeople not widely available

I bought these speakers after listening to many other brands. I had a set of 6.5" components made by Farenheit before and although the Farenheit's sounded great for their cost, there is no comparison to these Hex speakers. I got the 6" midbass, 4" midrange and 1" hard dome tweeter. The sound is unbelievable, the clarity is stunning and the speakers reproduce the sound at high volumes with no effort. I have them powered by 200w RMS per channel. I will soon bi-amp for more control and feed the 6s 150w RMS and 125w RMS to the 4" and 1". The only other speakers that sounded comparable to these that I've heard are the Focal Utopia series, but they are overpriced, and from FRANCE. I would not buy anything French EVER AGAIN, not even Dom!!

Model Reviewed: 2000 3-way Hex

Strength:

Great cross-overs. Warm mids, distinct and bright highs. Punchy midbass. Rattles the mirrors without subs. Very realistic sound reproducation. Lightweight Hex cones with strong baskets. Second best speaker set you can buy. Simply grand!

Weakness:

The spider gives in under high volume. Also, the grilles pop-off at times.

Alright, first thing you must know is that I am an SQ fanatic. I like to hear things in a musical reproductin that I have never heard before. Thus I set out on my mission. I listened to the Bostons, Rockford, Xtant, all the other major manufacturers. Then one day I stumbled upon a shop that carried Diamond Audio. I ran to my car and got out 5 cd's to trial these bad boys that I had only seen in magzines. From the first to the last cd, I was awestruck throughout the entire performance. I played highs, mids, midbass, from soft butterworth crossover rolloff, to the max 24db stop on a dime audition. After 30 minutes in the sound booth I was quite impressed. I purchased the 3-way setup on the spot. It consisted of a 1 inch silk dome tweeter, 4" midrange, and a special 6.5" woofer made for midbass. I combined this with the 2 sets of beefy 24 db Linkwitz-Riley x-overs. After carefully planning the stage, we finally mounted the speakers in there location and powered them up via two "A" series Xtant amplifiers. Mama Cita, these bad boys sounded even better in this stage. Very smooth roll off, realistic mids, and highs that don't shrill even up to 20k hz. I took this set-up to numerous shows and placed in every one of them. I have had to replace a 4" and a 6" because they fizzled under high db. That's my only complaint, they're not exactly bombproof. However fine china plateware isn't made to withstad punishment either. These are great sounding speakers that work in conjunction to provide nearly transparent, colorless, acurate, warm, deep sound with little to no drawbacks. A great buy for the audiophile!!!!!!! I am very anal retentive about sound quality, and take my word that thee speakers will fulfill your every desire. If you like to just listen to music loud, do not buy these speakers. Can't stand up to the beating, plus let someone who really enjoys "LISTENING" to music have them. I hope my review has been a help to some.

Polk Audio db series. They were in such a lower category they can't be compared. The only rival that these speakers have is the heralded Focal Polykevlar and Utopia lines. That is the reason these dont get a 5 star rating. The Utopias yield a deeper stage. The reverse dome ti-tweeter picks up the smalles vibrations. These Hex are still right up there and will be more then enough for the avid listener.
