Review 1 of 17

Price Paid:  $160.00 from Hi-Fi Buys

Year / Model Reviewed:
 95 Maxima

Summary:
After several cheap Japanese speakers, bought these after reading all the rave reviews. Have them up front with a pair of Madisound 6x9's used as subs in rear. They sounded good at first, but after a few weeks are stridently biting at mid frequencis, so much so that they hurt. I tested them with an SPL meter and test CD and there is a huge loud spikey peak at 1.2K hz a few other ups and then they fall off the planet at 10K.

Strengths:
None. Weak bass, peaky, screechy mids, no high-highs. Only their "mythical" good name.

Weaknesses:
Schreechy mids. Bass 6 dB below mids. (no bass to speak of.) HIgh price for such a lousy speaker.

Review 2 of 17

Price Paid:  $150.00 from motor music

Summary:
well like the other reviewers, I like these speakers overall, but the bass is a little lacking. not bad, but a little. Make up for it with a sub amp. should be cheap on Ebay. I have these in the back deck of a Lexus SC400, just driven by a JVC KD-SH707, and they sound fine.(The stock Nakamichis fried where they sat) Prolly be better with an amp, but I ain't complaining. Best 6 1/2s I heard in the store.

Strengths:
good overall sound

Weaknesses:
slight lack of bass

Review 3 of 17

Price Paid:  $200.00

Summary:
to the user who says that the bass distorts, it's because these speakers are power hungry and (i assume) that you aren't using an amp. i was in the same situation, till i added a basic 35w x 4 alpine to feed them. no more distortion, until i hit very high levels. the bass is accurate, but not very deep (maybe more power is needed) and the highs can be sharp. would i buy them again: well, ..if i had a sub (which i do), yes, otherwise, get something with a little more midbass to round off the sound

Strengths:
power handling capability clarity

Weaknesses:
power hungry not the most bass of any 6x9 i've ever heard

Review 4 of 17

Price Paid:  $100.00 from Ultimate Electronics

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Boston Acoustics RX67

Summary:
i got these speakers because they were cheap, only $100 for the pair ( i bought 2 pairs for front and rear ) they are discontinued so they were on clearance. the highs are wonderful for a 2 way coax, but i am going to replace the fronts with a component set when i get the money, and it looks like i will get another set of bostons. the bass is good and clean, although when i turned the volume up, even with a little bass up on the HU, the speakers distort. its not that bad though, and i did push them, so i dont really blame the speaker, they are excellent.

Strengths:
nice highs decent bass good design, nice and heavy, not light like those crappy low end speakers

Weaknesses:
distorts at high volumes ( but i think thats my fault anyways )

Review 5 of 17

Price Paid:  $160.00 from Columbus Car Audio

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2000-RX67

Summary:
I love these speakers and would definatly buy again, but as Don from Denver wrote, I have expierienced the same problem (although no audio problems) with my RX67''s in that the plastic around the tweeters have melted just above the connection tabs. I have 70 per channel amp, but am not going to overdrive these (I hate distortion) to the point of abusing them...I have been very happy with them and until I can afford another amp for a bazooka tube, the bass produced in incredible and many of my freinds dont beleive that I have no sub.....

Strengths:
power handling and durability

Weaknesses:
just the one with the melting plastic...hope it doesn''t make them start performing improperly

Similar Products Used:
all kinds....but these are easily the best I have ever owned
