Strength:

Shifter Paddles, rear wheel drive

Weakness:

Reliability is appalling, customer service is non-existent

My ex bought the smart fortwo passion I now have to drive because we lived in Manhattan and for space reasons, he thought it was a good idea. For parking purposes it's actually not bad (aside from the giant blind spot). Everything else about the car is just appalling, most of all SMART the company, who do not stand behind their cars at all.
My brakes continuously go bad, I have broken down on off-ramps and busy streets more than in any other car I've ever owned, actually my KIA Sorento never broke down in 5 years. I've had the clutch replaced, most of the electronics around the transmission, various engine parts, a rim, etc...
Now my roof is cracked. It just happened on its own one day. Small lines started appearing from side to side and with every bump they get worse. SMART doesn't want to hear about it. I have tried to contact them several times, but the ultimate outcome is: "It's your problem, you have to replace it at your own expense." Even though i have a 75000 mile extended warranty, even though I've done every service on it, even though other people have this problem. It is clearly a design flaw, yet SMART doesn't want to hear about it. I've never owned a car I've hated this much. And 50% of that feeling attributes to the "customer service" SMART "offers". Do not buy one!!! I can't even give it away, no one wants it, and I live in the NYC area.

Strength:

I liked the thought of a easily parked, quick to turn car that would hul my butt the 30 miles to work and back and get decent mileage which would save me tons of monthly fuel cost.

Weakness:

I was really disappointed with the responsiveness of the throttle, the shiftingsucked and the wind noise thru the door seals was more than I felt acceptable. The stereo wasn't working right but I think with a couple of decent speakers (if I could find a place to mount them) and amp it might be ok.

I think for the mileage factor and the acceleration alone I'll stay with my harley. I can park it easily, I get respect and it's made in the Usa. i'LL ALSO CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY BIG 8000# DODGE RAM 3500 DIESEL which gets better mileage per pound than this car ever will. I thought I'd love it and it'd be a go cart legal for the highways but unless I got one with a turbo Hyabusa motor with 300 hp I'd be very pissed. This might be for you but it aint for me.

Strength:

Park anywhere, 3.4L/100km fuel compsumption.

Weakness:

Too light to drive on snow or on a windy day. Rocky. Noisy.

It is basically a motorcycle on 4 wheels. Every time the oil price climb up, everyone got jealous seeing me driving the Fortwo. I was very concerned with the small vehicle, but apparently with the -- caging technology like the one they use in race cars -- Smart car is actually very safe. And if I have to deal with the semi trailer ... I guess even if I drive a hummer, I would still gotta go.

With the engine right behind me, the noise is very noticable.

I would recommend to have Smart car as a secondary car for leisure activities like dad driving son to soccer, dad pick up things in groccery store, etc...

Strength:

Can park it almost anywhere. Metro-sexual. Tridion safety cell.

Weakness:

Someday I'm gonna get punted by a Ford Explorer and live to regret it.

More hip than effective. Be prepared to attract a lot of stares and off-comments. The engine and transmission whines as if it is working too hard. Somehow I make it to my destination in one piece. Great urban vehicle where you don't have to go fast, but don't expect to bring anything home from Ikea.
