Price Paid:  $14000.00 from woodbine

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 Pontiac Sunfire 4 door

Summary:
Bought at 37 000 km Driven for more than a year, about 40000 km so far, unusually loud rattling sounds come from the dash board(reported it to the dealer in the first week after purchase, and thier answer was 'sunfire's rattle')i guess they were right because the rattling has been going on for about 2 years now, nothing seems broken. very good on gas looks good, a lot stiffer and heavier to handle than any car i have ever driven. Also requires a lot more effort when braking. so far had to have front brakes and rotors changed(started whistling) had to change a pressure valve close to the gas tank(engine light came on), its reliable enough so far, Just have to make sure to do regular maintenance.

Strengths:
looks good, good stereo system, good fuel economy,

Weaknesses:
small trunk, noisy ride, interior is very basic,

2003 pontiac sunfire

Summary:
I love my sunfire but it has some serious defects as far as I'm concerned. First it has a annoying loud grinding sound that I have had looked at was told, oh yea thats just what a sunfire sounds like...I have had the brakes/rotors replaced 4 times in 3 years. twice is was paid for by the dealer.
The back light has burned out 3 times.

Strengths:
good on gas, looks nice.

Weaknesses:
sounds like a piece of junk.

Review 5 of 270

Price Paid:  $14999.00 from Sentry

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 Pontiac Sunfire

Summary:
This car is quickly failing in my opinion. About 6 months after I bought it, the right taillight went out (common problem... okay...) So dealer fixes it and about 4 months later left taillight does the same. Dealer then tells me that the entire back end needs to be rewired. They take my car for two days, rewire it, and hand it back all shiny and new. About 3 months later my car starts stalling at about 35-40 mph. Not fun when you have people driving around you. I was told this was a recall issue and that my computer needed to be updated in the car. Okay... Another day. The car has problems with ignition on wet days, along with brakes squealing in reverse (which again is common but an annoyance). My air conditioner gets condensation onto my floor and makes running it kind of... well, pathetic. As of about 4 months ago the taillight started up again. No burnt bulb, just randomly switching between working and not. 2 months after that my horn went out (which I still haven't gotten fixed)... it simply clicks but does not make a noise. And the icing on the cake is tonight: my driver side window is stuck open because something has caused my button for the driver side window to malfunction. The passenger side and the sunroof still work (so far... crosses fingers). This concerns me for two reasons: one, my warranty is almost up and for me to have to keep replacing trivial stuff with my car after it is up would really irk me. And two, if the morons who wired my car can't wire/re-wire a taillight properly, what happens when my brakes go out? Also, as others have stated, when it rains and I open my trunk, the water goes straight into it. The defrost is automatically set to turn on the air conditioner when I choose defrost which is a pain when I just want hot air on my windshield and not some lukewarm medley. On the positive side, the sunfire has a decent amount of room, a very good sound system, and... well, it looks pretty good?

Strengths:
It's appearance, sound system, glove compartment size, gas-tank lockdown, personalized radio settings per driver (with key).

Weaknesses:
Trunk, defrost system, brakes, taillights, suspension, automatic features (such as their keyless entry range and power windows malfunctioning), oil filter location is awkward, seatbelts lock up (without brakes being pressed).

Similar Products Used:
Dad and Mom both own Pontiacs but they have never had any problems like mine. Makes me wonder if the sunfire is just a half-hearted attempt at a car.
