Review 1 of 43

Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 Ford Ranger

Summary:
I was rear ended by a American Family insured. There were two of us in the car. I was the passenger. Both of us suffered moderate whiplash injuries. We were hit while driving a work vehichle. The driver was offered 44k for his injuries which were rated at a 9% disability. My injury rated at 13% and this company offered me $5200. What a joke. I am hiring a lawyer.

Strengths:
zero it took them nearly a year and a half to give me a number that was unacceptable.

Weaknesses:
I warn anyone to stay away from this company. If you are hit by their insured good luck but I doubt you will have any luck but bad.

Review 2 of 43

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
Switched from AARP Hartford to AmFam through price/coverage comparison on both auto and renter's insurances. I comparison shop at least every 3 years and buy both coverages.
Have not yet had a auto or renter's claim.
I cover 2 cars '04 Stratus, '93 Taurus SW, plus extra coverage on renter's policy.

Strengths:
Price, advertising, declared coverages.

Weaknesses:
Number of agents = 1 within 20 miles.
Billing - erratic, unable to automatically bill credit cards. Renter's insurance must be paid in full annually.

Review 3 of 43

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I have never had an insurance company besides American Family and I now realize that I should have been shopping around.

I am 36 years old and have been insured through the above mentioned since I became eligible to drive. In that time, I have never had a claim, a speeding ticket, a drunk driving ticket...NOTHING. I always pay immediately upon receiving my bill. I am a hassle-free client. My home, boat, ATV (renters before I bought my house) everything has been insured with American Family and they have never had to pay out a dime for me.

Well, last week I was the victim of a hit and run in the parking lot of my work. It is diagonal parking and some drunk pasted my left back bumper, continued trying to pull in after hitting me, and scratched the front left quarter panel as well. I did everything AmFam asked. I got a police report,I took it to the autobody place they recommended blah blah blah. This was to insure no hassle service. Hah! I have, so far, spoken to the adjuster three times. Now there is a delay in fixing it, because despite police reports, they have to send an investigator to determine just how this could have happened at the angle I was parked. Well obviously it happened because I got hit...that is how cars get damaged.

Here is the best part of it all...AmFam's financial responsibility after I pay my deductible is a whole $735. That's it. I've done the math, and over the years, I have given them almost $30,000 for premiums on all my vehicles etc. Anytime I could give out $735 and get back $30K, I am thinking that's a go. So, I am heading for Statefarm after 20 years. They are a little higher priced, but at least they are going to do what we pay them for. As far as I am concerned, AmFam just plain has STUPID business practice.

Review 4 of 43

Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 American Family Insurance

Summary:
We've had American family Insurance for over 20 years. Several car claims over the years. They were always very supportive. Our agent was great. Then, he retired, and another agent was good. But after about 2-3 years he left, and I was getting ready to start looking. After reading all these reviews, I don't see a compelling reason to change. Then, I had a call in to our new agent, and he returned the call in an hour, was helpful. I will continue to monitor the reviews, but our experience has always been good. We've always received our bills on time. Our claims were treated well. They paid a fair rate when our car was totalled - albeit, after a bit of bickering, but that's the biz. A few times over the years we were out of town when payments were due and were late a day or so, and the agents helped us ensure we weren't kicked out. So many of these reviews are negative, let's also share the good stories so we can help each other find good companies to work with.

Strengths:
Reliable. Good network of service. Good support (in suburban location).

Review 5 of 43

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I have used American family insurance with two different agents for the last 6 years. In my experience good agents are difficult to find. The most recent agent is completely inept. I've always paid my insurance on time, however they sent me the papers for only one of my two cars. I had to call them up to get the faxed to me. And they tried to blame the main mailing center for not sending it out but this was never an issue at the other agency. I'm switching to my boyfriend's agent with state farm because that one agent has proven himself to be competent.

Strengths:
reasonable pricing

Weaknesses:
questionable staff
