from Kal-Tire (8th St. Sa Year / Model Reviewed: 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT1 Summary: After 1 year of ownership in my new Elantra GT1, I decided it was time for a set of upgraded rims and tires. The garage owner suggested a set of Yok's, and we settled on the A520's. I have to admit, since experiencing the Yokohama A520's I can't imagine why anyone would choose another product. I read the other reviews and will state that I haven't noticed the excessive road noise others have commented on, but I agree with their positive comments regarding ride quality, handling, and not to forget the esthetics of the tire (very aggressive). I will be looking forward to purchasing a set of Yokohama's for each of the many vehicles I will purchase before the authorities strip my driver's license from my hands. Strengths: As mentioned earlier, the tire is very aggressive looking, reassuring the driver through it's carefully inserted grooves that this tire was born for dry pavement while having the inborn ability to slice through rain as though the tire would never dream of hydroplaning. The rubber compound is soft, which gives a low profile tire the deceiving feel of having more rubber between the rim and the road. The A520 also maximizes the grip, or handling ability of whatever car it is mounted to, which is a great safety feature. The Yokohama A520 is by no means an inexpensive tire, yet compared to other products, you cannot find a better tire for the dollar, you really do "get what you pay for" with the Yokohama A520! Weaknesses: The soft rubber compound will not have the same tread life as other less expensive, less satisfying tires. Similar Products Used: Initially I started with a set of 205/40ZR17 Avon SS1's. I was extremely disappointed with the wet and dry performance of the tire which can be described as hard and unforgiving. I would also describe
