Price Paid:  $29000.00 from Crowne Jeep, Tulsa

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 4 dr Wrangler, hard top, Sahara,auto

Summary:
I had a Toyota FJ, 07 model. very poor visibility. I bought the Jeep because my wife has had 8 previously! What a pleasant surprise! better ride than the Cruiser, more maneuverable, great viz, and surprisingly good economy. With smart driving, I get 20-22 highway mpg, and about 17-18 city! Great sound system, great leg room (I am 6'2"), good luggage space. Less peppy than the FJ, but all in all, a better ride. Time will tell re the reliability, but I am really enjoying the big Wrangler. I personally recommend the Sahara package, and I did get the automatic.

Strengths:
Visibility. handling. surprisingly good economy.

Weaknesses:
Low end torque, but so? (That is in high-2wd)

Price Paid:  $32500.00 from Courtesy Chrysler Je

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Wrangler

Summary:
The 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is the Best Jeep EVER!
New creature comforts, safety features and now with 4 doors the Wrangler has gone mainstream and stayed true to it's roots. No foo-foo bun warmers or climate control here pal. Just locking axles, whay low gearing, and more Fun-In-the-Sun than you deserve!
I've had mine for 2 months and i love it. We finally have the convertible I've always wanted, and I get to bring Wifey, the Kidz and SuperDawg too!
Off road this thing is King.
On road everyone is amazed at how well it rides and I've gotten 22-23 mpg on the highway (a very flat highway at 55-60mph).
Sure you have to put the top down manually, but that's what the 'Jeep Thing' is all about. Getting back to the old cowboy & horse relationship. You work on it, take care of it - and it does the same for you.
Plenty of leg room, and head room. Cargo space is much improved, on par with other SUV's. It's no speedster so make sure you get the 4:10 gears. The whole Rubicon package is the Heavy Duty version and you'll appreciate it once you've got it.
Now with a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty = forever. You'll wear out the seats before the running gear.
A truely amazing vehicle for $32,500. The best 4x4 out there for under $100,000.
Bring the 3.0L CRD to the USA!!!

Strengths:
Rubicon - tougher than nails.
Dual Tops
4 doors - finally!

Weaknesses:
3.8L V6 needs better low-end torque.
Transmission is geared to long for a trail buggy.
Bring the 3.0L CRD to the USA!!!

1985 Toyota 4-Runner with removable hard-top (4 cyl 5 speed)with 165,000 miles. Tough as nails and a Kidney Buster.
1997 Ford Explorer LTD V6 - comfy & boring.
2000 Dodge Durango 4.7L V8 with everything. Tough as nails with Creature Comforts and room for 7.

Review 3 of 356

Price Paid:  $23000.00 from Meador Jeep in Fort

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Wrangler X 2DR

Summary:
This is the 2007 model. It came with the new hardtop and soft top. I traded my 2004 Xterra for this. Gas mileage seems to be on par with what I was getting in my Nissan. I will not complain about the mileage, it is a Jeep. The new one is wider and longer. It rides better than my Xterra did and compared to the outdated motor I had in that thing this has plenty of power. It sits taller and is more comfortable inside. The one I bought has everything you can get except electric locks and power windows. I relly do not see the need in that for a Jeep. I did elect to get the automatic due to a shoulder injury that may require more surgey and I would not be able to shift. The Infiniti stereo rocks, it is better than the Rockford that was in my X. I have found driving this on the road to be very comfortable. It seems to take the rough roads a little better than my Xterra did.

I did like my Nissan but I was a little tourqed that right after I bought it Nissan totally redid the thing. I was impressed with the new ones except for the way they looked. They seemed to have gone more urban than the old body style like I had. I had driven Jeeps back in the day and loved them so I figured now was good time to go back to the roots. This is truly a off road vehicle, so comparing it the local soccer moms kiddie transport is not justice. Jeeps can be made to suit your personality with an abudance of aftermaket parts, and it seems no matter what someone does to one it looks pretty darn cool. It is a unique vehicle and there really is no other SUV on the market in this price range to compare it to. The new ones really are totally changed. Hardcores may find the new look a little hard to get used to. The debate about the new engine will go on. I found at highway speeds the RPMs stay down compared to the older ones. The engine seems fine to me. It accelerates well and runs very well on the road. I drove it today at speeds of 70 or so and it cruised like a champ. The new stabilty control and other gadgets may or may not make all that difference but keeping in mind how the government is making safer vehicles mandatory I give cudos to Jeep for redesigning an ICON and leaving it alone enough that it still says Jeep when you see it. I have heard people belly aching about to much plastic. Go to any car lot and look at all of the models there, they all seem like they were recycled with old coke bottles. The uspside if it breaks it should be easier and cheaper to replace. The added room behind the passenger seat is ample but not great compared to my Xterra, but then again it is a Jeep.

The bottom line is I bought this to get back in a Jeep. I do not carry about the cargo space or other options that other SUVs are hashing it out to make a dollar. I bought it for the freedom that Jeeps offer, for the abiltu to add any number of parts to it to make it my Jeep. It is like having a Harley, there is something about the freedom and adventure it brings you. If you ever had a Jeep or still have one you will not be disappointed with the new one. Styles are changing and Jeep is trying to compete in this ever growing market withou breaking our hearts. They did a good job on this model. They made it more road friendly and in the process created a very capable off road vehicle where it will shine the most and leave the others behind. They turn on a dime and can drive through the eye of a needle. Either u get or u don't. My Nissan was a capable off road vehicle to, but it does not hold a candle to this. At least Jeep took into consideration all of the loyal Jeep Freaks out there when they replotted the course of the Wrangler. I love this Jeep. I know compared to Nissan and Toyota relabilty may be a concern. I still see plenty of older Jeeps on the road and they seem to be doing fine. People alwya look at a Jeep whe u go by, deep down inside they all think to themselves, thats a pretty cool vehicle. Not every vehicle is suited for everything we do, but as Jeep owenrs we adapt and overcome and our Jeeps suit our needs, yeah there are times I say to myself I wish I had more room, so I just pile another piece of equipment on top of some more and get in and crank her up and hit the trail. If u are thinking about getting a Jeep go test drive one, you will know its for u when the big grin comes across ur face. Then you will be on your way to understanding ONLY IN A JEEP. Rock-on.

Strengths:
It is more stable, more room in the front where it matters. The interrior is great. The stereo rocks, free sattelite radio for a year and u can plug you MP3 into it, the windows are tinted so dark that u caqn not really tell if anyone is in it. The hardtop configures in several ways and is light. The interior offers a very relaxed and kicked back style. It is modern but still Jeep. I like the added curves here and there to the exterrior and they are minor enough that unless u are a hardcore Jeep owner they really are not that noticeable. I know this everywhere I go people want to check it out. The main thing is it is still a Jeep. I t is like a piece of clay that u can mold and wrok with to customize however u want to.

Weaknesses:
My only complaint is I wish Jeep would mount the spare tire about 2 inches higher so i can fold up my back rack. But as stated above I adapted with some bungee cords to hold the bike rack in the upright position by attaching the cord to the spare wheel and the frame of the rack. I bike to much to keep taking it on and off. Somebody start making aftermarket parts for these things. The only other complaint why change the bolt pattern to 5 on 5, I missed that meeting. Try and find some wheels right now, I ordered some and it is going to take 2 weeks to get them. Oh well, it is worth all of the above.

Similar Products Used:
Nissan Xterra-I think they may have lost sight of there original everything u need and nothing u don't slogan.

The old style Toyota FJ. Talking about messing up an ICON. If you are going to try and reinvent history at least make it seem like the ICON it once was. I test drove the new one, no way! The old one we had truly was the closet thing to Jeep out there and it rocked.
