Review 1 of 12

Price Paid:  $75.00 from friend

Year / Model Reviewed:
1996 xtr Series 2

Summary:
I was pretty surprised with the quality of these subs, i had two jl 10w6v1's in my car before these and they got stolen so i was looking for a cheap set of subs, and i came across these on craigslist. I am pretty blown away by the quality of them, they definately don't look like they would sound as good as they do. They do distort at higher volumes but push quite a bit of SPL, but at lower(reasonable) volumes they perform excellent for SQ. pretty crisp clear bass notes. Overall i am extremely impressed with these subs

Strengths:
High output with low amount of wattage.
crisp bass at lower volumes

Weaknesses:
at high volume the distortion is evident.

Review 3 of 12

Price Paid:  $0.00 from given to me

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2-1999 XTR-PRO 12d's

Summary:
Around a year ago, these two XTR-PRO's were given to me as a birthday gift. At first i had them in a ported enclosure, and they sounded like crap. Then i progressed to a .95 cu.ft. box and they pound away in my 1976 GMC camper special. At one point, i doubted them, but then i was at a party and they were rippling the fog! no joke either. Oh yeah, they were powered by a DIRECTED 600d amp, wired series parallel, with the amp bridged to 1400 watts at 2 ohms.

Strengths:
They pound hard in sealed boxes, and have never let me down. I don't exactly reserve the right to judge them, because they were free!!

Weaknesses:
They seem to be over rated. The Power handling specs make the sub seem hossy, but they sound kind of muddy at high powers.

Review 4 of 12

Price Paid:  $150.00 from Auto Audio

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2000

Summary:
Bought two Orion XTR Subs in two sealed boxes. Placed them behind the rear seat in my '99 Crew Cab Ford Super Duty. I drove power to them with an Orion HCCA amp (not sure witch one, not the big ones)& Kewood head unit. They would shake your fillings. Never had distortion, no matter what volume or how much bass. Hit the lows hard. Took them out in 2002 and installed amp and sups in a 2001 Mastercraft X-10. Had to custom build one sealed box and used one premade one. With a Clairon head and same HCCA amp bridged, they hit very hard in an open air boat. In calm water, boat sitting still, it makes ripples in the water it hits so hard.

Strengths:
Great spreakers. Work well in boats even though they are not marine speakers because they do not have paper cones and can handle a little moisture. Hit low, very low in a sealed box. With a good amp they are awsome. Would love to try some HCCA subs.

Weaknesses:
Have to have the sealed box to make them hit hard. But guess that's just physics and has nothing to really do with the speaker.

Review 5 of 12

Price Paid:  $126.00 from eBay.com

Year / Model Reviewed:
 XTR12D

Summary:
These are the best overall-sounding subs that I have ever owned and I've owned about 10 types of subs. The sealed box application gives them the freedom to drop very low while maintaining the good high-bass frequencies as well. These are without a doubt the best pair of subs that I've ever owned. Unfortunatly, they were stolen a week and a half ago :(. If you want good overall sound that pounds hard, these subs are for you!

Strengths:
Drops extremely low for a sealed box and has excellent overall sound quality.

Weaknesses:
Couldn't find any. I ran 225 watts RMS to 2 12" XTR dual voice coil subs and they never crapped out on any songs. My SPL was 138db in a contest and I spent only about $300 for the amps, subs, and box!
