blaupunket, like many manufacturers, tries to have product at as many price points as possible...as such, this radio is in essense, a private label product...for my money, it''s as good as other''s units retailing for hundreds more....i replaced an old blaupunket cassette unit...purchased it at costco for $129 plus tax...it exceeded my expectations X''s 4! i believe it would be very difficult to purchase a unit that sounds better....certainly, you would receive less value in more expensive units....today''s customer looks for "bang for the buck" and this product certainly has it

Summary:
Very good receiver, I''ve never had any problems with it using normal cd''s, even in very cold weather. Will get very hot in hot weather (90''s), but still plays cd''s. Despite that it says 40 watts x 4, it''s really 50 x 4, the mistake is also on blaupunkt''s site, but not in the manual. The high-power amp is stable, it''s not cheap. Can be had for *much* less than the retail price. Detachable face feels very stable, I haven''t had any problems with it and I''ve taken it off 100+ times. When car is shut off, cd starts back at the exact position you left it (1 min 32 sec into the song or whatever).

Strengths:
negative blue display is bright and looks really cool power button also mute button very good FM reception changeable mute level

Weaknesses:
cd''s skip when unit gets very hot (only in very hot weather) can''t change bass/treble when muted doesn''t come with a case for the faceplate
